
Ben Dorfan is a pianist, composer, and educator based in Santa Cruz, CA. He has performed with The Carmel Bach Festival, NewMusicWorks, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Santa Cruz Chamber Players, Santa Cruz Symphony, Monterey County Pops!, Bay Shore Lyric Opera, Ariose Singers, and Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus. He has also provided music direction for Jewel Theatre Company, Mountain Community Theater, Georgiana Bruce Kirby School, and other organizations.
An advocate for the arts, he has served in various nonprofit roles, including Branch President, for the Music Teachers’ Association of California, Santa Cruz County Branch. Currently he is the General Manager of Santa Cruz Chamber Players and First Director for the Music Teachers’ Association of California State Board. Ben holds a BA in Music Technology from Oberlin College and an MA in Music from the University of California, Santa Cruz—where he is a DMA Candidate.
His research interests include traditional Korean music, 18th- and 20th-century approaches to counterpoint, and American Minimalism in the most broad and inclusive sense.
