Ben Dorfan is a native of Santa Cruz, California. He studied composition and electronic music at Oberlin Conservatory with Tom Lopez, and piano with Gene Lewis, Ivan Rosenblum and Frédéric Lacroix. His music has been featured at SEAMUS National Conference, Electronic Music Midwest, the SPARK Festival, and throughout the greater Monterey Bay Area. Currently, Ben is pursuing his M.A. in Music Composition at UC Santa Cruz.
An avid performer of chamber music, he has appeared with Santa Cruz Chamber Players as well as in several independently produced programs dedicated to the work of American composer Alex Shapiro. He has given solo and chamber recitals with Munching with Mozart and Friends, and has performed with Santa Cruz Symphony, Monterey County Pops! and Bayshore Lyric Opera.
In addition to maintaining a private teaching studio, he is the accompanist for Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus directed by Cheryl Anderson.
Ben serves as Board President of the Music Teachers’ Association of California, Santa Cruz County Branch, and Musician Liaison for Santa Cruz Chamber Players.
